The Beauty of Imperfect Stone Surfaces.

I’ve always been drawn to stone surfaces that reveal the passage of time. Small fractures, weathered edges, and subtle variations in texture are reminders that beauty doesn’t have to be flawless—it can be shaped by age, use, and the environment.

These imperfections tell a story. They soften hard materials, catching light in unexpected ways and giving each surface a quiet sense of character. Rather than concealing these details, I find myself looking closer, appreciating the honesty they bring to a space.

This way of seeing continues to influence my work with black stoneware. I embrace subtle irregularities as part of the making process, allowing the material to retain its natural character. Like weathered stone, each piece is intended to feel grounded, tactile, and quietly enduring—an object that becomes more meaningful through everyday use.
